EQUALITY & DIVERSITY OFFICER

Dan Newton

Whilst it’s now approaching the end of my short time at Keele, I have been impressed by the efforts and attitudes of the KPA team present throughout my 18 months as an Ma Student, and I look forward to working closely with the committee members as well as the organisations connected with the KPA.

My time here as a student has been as fulfilling as it has been varied. Whilst I always knew that it could be both of these things coming back to studying after eight years, I am delighted to say that inspiration has been a near-constant feature throughout the topsy-turvy period of staff strikes and the pandemic. I’ve found my peers to be resilient, creative and above all kind in the most difficult times. The members of the KPA have been no exception to this and have showed continued support for important issues and students in difficult situations.

I put myself forward for the Equality and Diversity Officer because of this inspiration I’ve seen in the previous students who held the role, and I hope I can exhibit the same level of enthusiasm to help our university become a more inclusive celebration of diversity.

If you, or anyone you know would like to discuss any ideas you have, or if you have a concern about a lack of these ideals at the University, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
