Sophia Hayat Taha
Sophia Hayat Taha is a British-Lebanese postgraduate student at Keele. She started in 2017 and did her MA and worked as Equality and Diversity Officer at the KPA for most of 2 academic years. She’s now finishing her MRes and going straight into her PhD. Her interdisciplinary work takes a postcolonial feminist critique working with women who have No Recourse to Public Funds. She also works with others on the Decolonise Keele project and she co-founded and co-created Women of Keele Educate.
She is now your Activities Officer at the KPA. In her manifesto she pledged to have frequent affordable or completely free activities for PG community. She is also going to prioritise accessibility to everything the KPA does and to make sure that we are offering a wide variety of activities both on campus and off campus in the local community. Another one of her priorities is to make sure there are activities at varying times of the day and days of the week for maximum accessibility to the PG community.
Some of her ideas include, going to car-boots, walks and local art exhibitions and projects. She co-organised KPA goes to Wales in 2018 and is keen to get the PG community going away again.
Sophia’s hair and glasses colours frequently change, she’s full of ideas, still obsessed with pineapples and always ready to listen to the PG community.
The KPA Activities Officer is a great role for anyone who wants to help develop the post-grad community at Keele and get PG students more involved in what we do. You'll get the opportunity to shape and design KPA events in conjunction with the rest of the officer team as well as running your own.
